NLS: Apology not accepted?
So the Democrats have finally conceded that Allen has apologized after having demanded this over and over again.
What caught my eye is that apologies don't seem to be enough anymore:Welcome to the new Virginia where young Republicans, and Democrats from the suburbs won't stand for racial slurs- apology or not. Now for those of us who are native Virginians, this should strike you as rather odd.
Honor, chivalry, and character still means something down here. Maybe that's what Allen meant by welcoming our friendly Webb staffer "to the real world of Virginia."
I was always taught to accept an apology for what it was worth. Of course, I'm a Virginian, so those things matter to me...

As opposed to the Virginia of the Webb supporters where they make up charges of racism because its the only way anybody will vote for their candiate?
Allen has only himself to blame - though props to ya for trying to divert attention away from his (predictably) nasty ways.
Still, this is more of a political discourse thing than an Allen-Webb item.
Apologies should be accepted. Penance is something different (as a Catholic, you gotta get that in), but an apology offered sincerely is something a gentleman should accept.
I dunno... maybe I'm the last of a dying breed of Virginian...
But in campaigns, you don't move on. We judge people by their character and the way they treat others. And this is a fantastic issue for this campaign...which is ongoing. Why drop it?
We can accept Allen's apology and forgive him, but that doesn't mean we're sworn to silence about his actions, does it?
Just look at PA where Santorum is gaining ground while Casey does nothing, excepting being "not bush"
As long as the Dems continue to run on "we're not them" they won't win national elections, or many local general ones.
VA Leftist - if you accept an apology and offer forgivenss, then why bringing up the issue over and over and over again shows neither acceptance or forgivness.
When you forgive someone, you acknowledge that they did wrong, but it was a mistake on their part. Harping on peoples acknowledged mistakes brings the political discourse to low sub-human levels which alienate hard working people.
I'm sure their are enough things you disagree with Allen on intelectually. If you believe in your ideas, lets agrue those and raise the level of political disagreement to rational human agruements.
That's very convenient...for the racists!

Is it an issue? It was, up until the very moment Allen (or Webb) apologized.

That's part of forgiveness, Paul...
Part of the Christian ethic, isn't it?
