Of Dead Priests and Cartoons
Bishop Rino Fisichella of Rome expressed his concern for Christian minorities in Muslim countries, most notably the disparity between Muslim violence towards Christians:In a reference to the murder on 5 February of an Italian priest, Andrea Santoro, in Turkey, allegedly killed by a Muslim radical, Fisichella also noted that, 'it is impossible to put on the same level a cartoon and the murder of a priest.' Good point. Where are all the Christian protests in the West? If a Christian had assassinated a Muslim imam, would the response of the radical Muslims be a simple shrug?
This has little to do with Muslims vs. Christians. It has more to do with the concept of religious freedom, and how that freedom is being squelched in some parts of the globe.

It'll never happen (Provo and Real IRA members have been helping FARC, ETA, and HAMAS for years), but it'd make one heck of a movie!
Kinda reminds me of the murder of Stephen.
Martin Luther would have been burned at the stake, if he were caught, for drawing pictures of the Pope playing a musical horn from his butt - then. Tdoay, Catholics would cluck at such a cartoon and raise an eyebrow.
Islam doesn't have any concept of religious freedom. They are 800 years behind the West.
The Romans were only 300 years behind the Greeks, when the Greeks sniffed that they were barbarians - and the Romans conquered them.
The Goths, Visigoths, Alimanni(sp) etc were only 600 years behind the Romans as barbarians when they conquered Rome.
And I believe that the murder of my protestant forefathers was "holy" Roman Catholic Church policy.....
Religious toleration is indeed the centerpiece. The Christian West understands what it means and practices it. Of course, it's always fun to explain this to our secular counterparts and watch their eyes fall out of their heads... as if Christian thought could *ever* be tolerant!
Would that be any different than boatloads of Virginians coming across the Potomac to kill Catholics in Maryland?
Or NINA laws?
Or the Know Nothing Party?
Or Freemasonry today?
Gotta think it through, republitarian. No one organization has a monopoly on living what Christ taught, though there are many examples on both sides.
I'm glad you have come to that conclusion on you own...
You're the MAN.
Actions can be fallible.
Specific teachings are not (unless you'd like to proffer the argument that Jesus was not God... I leave that to your conscience).
The argument you are making would seem to suggenst that the Bible is not God's Word at all, since people do despicable things in it's name.
I know that's not what you're suggesting, but the ordering of your logic could lead one to that conclusion... don't assume too much!!!
Would you say the Catholic church is error free as it relates to ALL their doctrine?
But I do believe that some of the teachings of the Church that are not explicity within the Bible - the Trinity of God, Purgatory, and the Immaculate Conception - are infallible and will not change because they are true.
What's that? Got some scripture reference?
Oh...I know!!!
That's the place that if your family pays enough money to the priest, they'll be nice and "pray" your way out.
Sounds like a scam to me....
Or are you slamming a straw man?
